This division exploded into world rugby news this week with the official announcement (although the fact had already been established) that Cyprus was not eligible for Rugby World Cup qualification. It certainly created heated discussion on rugby forums and even a petition was started. However the rules and the rules and Cyprus is not a part of the qualifying process.

BULGARIA 3 2 0 1 55 49 6 0 1 9
HUNGARY 3 2 0 1 46 45 1 0 1 9
SLOVENIA 2 1 0 1 22 27 -5 0 1 5
AUSTRIA 2 0 0 2 17 23 -6 0 2 2

So this game has is now of great importance. Bulgaria and Hungary have completed their qualifying games (although Hungary will play Cyprus today-See below). Bulgaria leads the table on account of scoring 5 more points than Hungary when they met in October last year thus eliminating Hungary from qualifying.

If Slovenia collect maximum points from a win over Austria (who cannot qualify) in this match they will qualify for the next stage. If they lose Bulgaria goes through. If Slovenia wins without a bonus then Bulgaria goes through on the basis they have already defeated Slovenia.

Cyprus v Hungary in Esztergom (ENC 2C)

The other game in this division sees hot favourites Cyprus against Hungary. I wonder how all the publicity has affected the moral of the Cyprus team. That’s the only thing standing in the way of a huge win.

Prediction: Cyprus by 40 points
